The Vélez Sarsfield Bridge Recovery Project is a crucial water management project for both cities. The Province decided, along with the mayors of Villa María and Villa Nueva, to carry out this project that will allow protecting different sectors when the river's flow increases significantly. The mayor of Villa María, Eduardo Accastello, highlighted the importance of the project to avoid future complications due to the Ctalamochita River's flooding and recalled the consequences suffered by Villa María and Villa Nueva during the 2014 floods. The mayor added that the interventions will benefit especially the neighborhoods of Mariano Moreno, Vista Verde, and Palermo in Villa María, as well as vulnerable sectors in Villa Nueva. Moreover, he emphasized that the project will allow recovering the Vélez Sarsfield Bridge as a historical heritage and converting it into a meeting space for neighbors and visitors. On the other hand, the mayor of Villa Nueva, Ignacio Tagni, valued the provincial government's response to a joint claim from both cities and stated that the tasks will allow 'bringing tranquility to the neighbors' in the face of major climatic events. Additionally, he highlighted that the transformation of the old bridge into viewpoints will allow creating new public spaces for the enjoyment of the inhabitants of both localities and strengthening regional integration. According to architect Martín Liarte, technical representative of the provincial government, work is currently underway on different fronts of work, including soil movement for the formation of coastal defenses, riverbank profiling, and the dismantling of the Vélez Sarsfield Bridge structure. The tasks also include the placement of gabions and other hydraulic protections to contain erosive processes, while in Villa Nueva, work is advancing on the construction of coastal defenses and the placement of hydraulic protections.
